New Laser Cure for Adult Acne
September 21, 2010
A pioneering new laser treatment for adult acne has been trialled at Hammersmith Hospital, London, with promising results.
The N-Lite laser was originally developed for general skin rejuvenation, but when one patient with severe adult acne discovered that her spots had virtually disappeared two weeks after N-Lite treatment, it was decided to find out whether it could be used as an effective acne cure.
Professor Tony Chu, Medical Director of the West London Dermatology Centre, led the study. He explained that the laser uses yellow light which penetrates deep into the skin killing spot causing bacteria.
The laser also stimulates the immune system to repair damage caused by adult acne, reducing inflammation and preventing scarring. Treatment should be repeated every one to three months depending on the severity of the acne.
The Advantages of Laser Treatment
There are three main advantages of using laser treatment over conventional medications such as antibiotics.
- Laser treatment can be more effective than medication
- Laser treatment is fast acting so the effects are seen quickly
- Laser treatment appears to have no adverse side effects
If you suffer from occasional outbreaks of adult acne but feel laser treatment is too extreme for your condition, check out the Zeno Acne device which allows you to treat isolated spots at home without the need for medication.
